Shah and Green Earn Top Honors to Highlight All-NCAC Awards

Cleveland, Ohio - The North Coast Athletic Conference recently announced their All-NCAC teams, with five Big Red being honored in singles, and three doubles teams being recognized. Kael Shah was named Player of the Year, and he and his doubles partner Ethan Green were named Doubles Team of the Year for the third consecutive year. In total, six Big Red were honored across singles and doubles competition.

Singles Selections

First Team

Kael Shah (Senior | Nairobi, Kenya | Player of the Year) - Shah earns his third consecutive first team honor and collects his first ever Player of the Year awards after a dominant stretch on the court. The senior went 17-3 in dual matches, going 11-2 in the top flight and 6-1 in the No. 2 slot. In conference play, Shah went a perfect 5-0 while going 4-0 in the No. 1. He becomes the sixth consecutive and 15th overall Big Red to earn Player of the Year honors. He currently ranks No. 4 in the ITA national rankings.

Ethan Green (Senior | Salt Lake City, Utah) - Green secures his third consecutive first team All-NCAC selection, and now makes it four years landing on an all-conference team. The Salt Lake City, Utah native went 11-5 in dual matches, going 7-2 in the No. 1 flight and 4-3 in No. 2. He posted a conference record of 2-0, both in the No. 1 spot, and has won his last seven matches. Green currently ranks No. 12 in the ITA national rankings. 

Jacob Patterson (Senior | Bridgeville, Pennsylvania) - Patterson makes it all four seasons as a Big Red on the first team All-NCAC list, as he was Newcomer of the Year in 2023 to spark his journey. The Bridgeville, Pennsylvania native went 15-3 in the No. 2, 3, and 4 flights in dual matches, playing his most matches in the No. 3, going 10-3. Patterson went a perfect 4-0 in conference play, going 2-0 in the No. 2 flight and 2-0 in the No. 3, and currently ranks No. 49 in the ITA national rankings.

Second Team

Andreas Chapides (Senior | Limassol, Cyprus) - Andreas Chapides earns his third All-NCAC selection, and his first time landing second team honors after earning third team the year before. The senior was dominant in the middle part of the lineup, going 17-2 in dual matches through the No. 1 and No. 4 flights, while going 9-1 in the No. 4 slot. He posted a perfect 6-0 record in conference play through the No. 1 and No. 4 flights, and ranks No. 29 in the ITA national rankings.

Third Team

Nick Meyers (Sophomore | Cincinnati, Ohio) - Meyers returns to the All-NCAC team after earning Newcomer of the Year and second team distinction last season. The sophomore went perfect in dual matches at 15-0, playing in a range of positions from No. 1 to No. 5. He played most of his matches in the No. 5 flight, where he went 10-0. In conference play, Meyers would go 4-0, and ranks 32nd in the most recent ITA national rankings.

Doubles Selections

First Team

Ethan Green/Kael Shah (Doubles Team of the Year) - Green and Shah earn Doubles Team of the Year for the third consecutive season, with Shah earning his third doubles first team nod, while Green has made it his entire career on the first team list. The duo went 12-4 in dual matches all in the No. 1 flight against top competition all season. In NCAC play, they went 3-1 on the season, picking up big wins to help propel the Big Red in the first portion of matches. Green currently has the most doubles wins in program history, while Shah ranks sixth.

Second Team

Andreas Chapides/Nick Meyers - Chapides and Meyers repeat on the second team All-NCAC for the second consecutive year after playing in multiple spots across the season. The duo went 13-2 in dual matches across the No. 1, 2, and 3 flights. In conference play, they went 3-0 across all flights, and picked up ranked wins as the season went on.

Third Team

Wesley Huang/Jacob Patterson - Huang and Patterson earn third team distinction to round out the doubles selections for the Big Red. Huang earns his first All-NCAC honor, while Patterson finds himself on his third consecutive doubles unit, with him being on the second team the previous two seasons. The pair went 14-4 in duals, mainly splitting time between the No. 2 and 3 positions. In conference play, they went 4-0 across the No. 2 and 3 flights, and currently on a five-match winning streak heading into NCAA Tournament play. 

The Big Red will host the First, Second, and Third Rounds of the NCAA Tournament from May 8-10, with Denison playing the winner of Carthage and Illinois Tech in the Second Round on Saturday, May 9 at 11 am.
