Men’s Tennis Set to Host NCAA First, Second, and Third Rounds

Granville, Ohio - The No. 2 ranked Denison men's tennis team will host the first three rounds of the NCAA Tournament in their quest for back-to-back National Championships. The Big Red welcome four teams to Granville: Illinois Tech, Carthage, Kalamazoo, and WashU. Carthage and Illinois Tech will square off on Friday, May 8 at 12 pm in the lone First Round matchup, while Denison will play the winner of the two squads on Saturday at 11 am, and Kalamazoo and WashU will battle right after in Second Round action. The Third Round will be played at 12 pm on Sunday, May 10.

Denison (25-2) will be making its sixth consecutive and 13th overall appearance in the national tournament after receiving the NCAC's automatic bid in a 4-0 win over No. 10 Kenyon. The Big Red will look to repeat as national champions, as they defeated Case Western 4-2 in the championship match last season. Denison is currently ranked No. 2 in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, and have five singles players ranked in the top-50 nationally in singles (Kael Shah #4; Ethan Green #12; Andreas Chapides #29; Nick Meyers #32; Jacob Patterson #49). In doubles, Green and Shah are ranked #4 nationally.

One of the most storied programs in Division III men's tennis, Kalamazoo (15-6) will be making its 42nd appearance in the NCAA Tournament and sixth-consecutive. They earned the MIAA automatic bid after defeating Hope 4-1 in the MIAA Tournament Final. In their last NCAA Tournament appearance, the Hornets fell to Grinnell 4-2 in the first round of action. Kalamazoo is currently ranked No. 31 by ITA, and have faced off against WashU nine times in postseason play, holding a record of 3-6.

About the Bears: Roster | Schedule | Stats

Washington University in St. Louis (13-9) finds itself back in postseason play after missing last year. The Bears had a 25-year appearance streak from 2000-2024 before being broken last season. They came in as an at-large bid from the UAA, and most recently won their fifth-place match in the UAA Championships against Carnegie Mellon 4-2. The Bears currently rank No. 14 nationally in the ITA, and have two singles players ranked nationally (Colin Scruggs #23; Eric Kuo #33). In doubles, Colin Fox and Jeremy Sieben rank 10th in the nation.

About the Firebirds: Roster | Schedule | Stats

Carthage (22-3) will make their 12th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and first since 2023. The Firebirds earned the CCIW automatic bid after defeating North Central 4-1 in the CCIW Tournament Final. In their last trip to the NCAA Tournament, the Firebirds fell in the Round of 32 to WashU 5-0. Carthage currently ranks No. 32 in the latest ITA rankings, and will be their eighth matchup all-time against Illinois Tech (Carthage leads 6-1).

About the Scarlet Hawks: Roster | Schedule | Stats

Illinois Tech (14-5) will be making its third-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and sixth overall. The Scarlet Hawks earned the NACC automatic bid after defeating Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) 4-3 in the NACC Tournament Championship. Last season, Illinois Tech fell to Haverford in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament 4-0. The Scarlet Hawks hold a 3-5 record in the NCAA Tournament, with their last win coming in 2024 against Rose-Hulman 5-0.
