Schena Earns All-NCAC Honors, Tharayil Notches Top Five Finish at NCAC Outdoor Track and Field Combined Championships

Granville, Ohio - Sophomore Julia Schena took home All-NCAC honors as she took third place in the heptathlon in the NCAC Outdoor Track and Field Combined Championships hosted by Denison University. Schena finished with 3,625 points, while senior Justin Tharayil finished fifth with 5,678 in the decathlon. Other competitors were Marisa Bianchi and Sydney Brown on the women's side, while Tyler McClintock-Comeaux competed in the men's.

Heptathlon

Schena got off to a hot start early, finishing third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.85 for 733 points, the most throughout all of her events. Her second-best event would come in the 200-meter dash as she totaled 674 points with a time of 27.46. She then excelled in the high jump with a mark of 1.48m for 599 points, and was third in the long jump with a mark of 4.66m for 469 points. She capped off her weekend in the 800-meter run, totaling 544 points with a time of 2:42.58. Schena earned the Big Red six team points early into the NCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships next weekend.

First-year Marisa Bianchi finished ninth in her first ever outdoor combined events championship, as she posted her best scoring event in the high jump, finishing with 470 points with a mark of 1.36m. In the 800-meter run, Bianchi finished in a time of 2:53.89 for 424 points, and 426 points in the long jump with a leap of 4.49m. She finished the day with 2,760 points.

Senior Sydney Brown did not finish, but put up a strong showing in the 100-meter hurdles and high jump,  finishing second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.62, totaling 762. She then recorded a jump of 1.33m in the high jump for 439 points.

Decathlon

Senior Justin Tharayil earned four points for the Big Red leading up to the NCAC Championships, as he finished with 5,678 points in the decathlon. He was steady across all events, with his best coming in the 100-meter dash, totaling 730 points with a time of 11.61. He then tallied 628 points in the long jump with a leap of 6.19m, and threw for 42.94m in the javelin for 485 points. He jumped for 1.79m for 619 points in the high jump, and ended his day in the 1500-meter run with a score of 556 in 5:00.63.

First-year Tyler McClintock-Comeaux finished 10th in his first outdoor combined events championship, as he tallied 4,668 points across the two-day event. His best came in the 100-meter dash, posting a time of 11.95 for 661 points. His other 600+ point events came in the pole vault, where he finished with a mark of 3.95m for 603 points. In the long jump, he posted a mark of 5.83m for 550 points, and a toss of 10.79m in the shot put for 533.
