DiCerbo, McCann, and Ott Win Events to Highlight Duane Gomez Invitational

Gambier, Ohio - The Big Red men's track and field team made the short trip to Kenyon College to compete in the Duane Gomez Invitational, and multiple Big Red reached the podium, including wins from Oliver DiCerbo, Jake McCann, and Eric Ott to complete the day. The Big Red finished fourth out of six teams with 26.5 points, just behind Wittenberg (30.5) and in front of host Kenyon (19). Ohio Wesleyan would win the invitational, scoring 40 points.

Distance/Sprints

Senior Oliver DiCerbo won the 3000-meter steeplechase by almost 14 seconds, recording a blazing time of 9:48.63 for a personal-best and five points for the Big Red. Sophomore Jake McCann was crowned champion in the 100-meter dash after running a time of 10.82 and winning by .01 seconds to second place. Sophomore Caleb Zell- Ratner also earned a top-three finish in the event, running a time of 10.90. First-year Felix Martin placed eighth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.52, and juniors Jason Rideout (51.45) and Wilson White (51.60) earned top-10 finishes in the 400-meter dash. In the 200-meter dash, Jack Meyerowitz and Jake Mason earned top-five finishes, with Meyerowitz coming in fourth with a time of 22.74, and Mason fifth in 22.98.

Relays

The 4x100 relay team of Jake Mason, Jake McCann, Jack Meyerowitz, and Caleb Zell- Ratner won the event after posting a time of 41.39 and earning five points. The 4x400 relay team of Wilson White, Zion Edwards, Elias Sellman Skinner, and Jacob Brechbill placed fourth with a time of 3:33.66.

Field

Sophomore Eric Ott won the triple jump event on his final jump after a foul the attempt before, jumping 13.34m to win the event and record a new personal-best. Junior Jonathan Westfall placed second on his first throw in the javelin, tossing a 46.11m for three points. Senior David Atlas reached a top-five mark in the long jump on his final attempt, scoring a jump of 6.44m. Justin King continued his solid junior season with a 14.26m toss on his fourth throw for a sixth place finish in shot put, and he would record a top-five finish in the hammer with a toss of 45.29m on his second attempt. In discus, three Big Red placed in the top-eight, with first-year Samuel Pfitzenmayer  earning a top-five attempt with a throw of 41.08m. Sophomore Leo Koch (seventh, 40.47m) and junior Reed Nobili (eighth, 39.94m) rounded out the group. In the pole vault, sophomore Joe Teates earned a point after a mark of 3.95m in the pole vault for fourth place.

Up Next for the Big Red

Denison will host the Big Red Invitational next Friday, April 24 and the NCAC Outdoor Track and Field Combined Events Championships from April 25-26.
