Women’s Track and Field Finish Day One at Fast Break Invitational

Cleveland, Tenn. - The Denison women's track and field team traveled down south in the highly competitive Fast Break Invitational hosted by Lee University. The Big Red recorded multiple personal-bests, including a first-place finish from Emily Brennan in the 400-meter hurdles, where she now ranks top-10 in the nation. Denison saw competition ranging from all divisions, with multiple Division I institutions in the field.

Sprints/Distance

Emily Brennan highlighted the day one efforts with a spectacular run in the 400-meter hurdles, breaking the Lee University track record and setting a personal-best time of 1:02.40 to win the event against multiple Division I athletes. Ava Sinex also scored a season-best, placing ninth with a time of 1:07.29, and first-year Mira Renaldi also had a personal-best with a time of 1:07.66. In the 200-meter dash, Stevie Combs finished sixth with a season-best time of 25.59 to secure big points for the Big Red. Shaylee Murdough capped off the day with a personal-best in the 1500-meter run, clocking in a time of 4:42.19 for 18th place. 

Field

Sophomore Julia Schena tied her personal best in the high jump, scoring a 1.50m tie for sixth place for the Big Red. In the hammer throw, junior Mariel Drost placed 11th with a throw of 39.50m in a loaded field. Senior Sydney Brown recorded a personal-best in the long jump, placing 15th with a mark of 5.03m. In the javelin, Hannah Grudzien finished ninth with a mark of 30.62m in a loaded field.

Up Next: Denison returns tomorrow for the second day of action, as men's javelin kicks off the field events, while the men's 10k starts off the running events.
