Men’s Track and Field Compete in Day One of Fast Break Invitational

Cleveland, Tenn. - The Big Red men's track and field team headed to Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee for the Fast Break Invitational, and multiple Denison athletes saw personal-bests in a loaded field of 75 teams across the country. Juniors Justin King and Jason Rideout impressed on the track and in the ring, while Oliver DiCerbo continued his improvement in the 1500-meter run. Denison will gear up tomorrow for another day filled with action.

Sprints/Distance

Junior Jason Rideout recorded a new personal-best in the 400-meter hurdles with a fifth place finish and time of 57.53 for four points. First-year Felix Martin also notched a personal-best time of 59.20 for 12th place. In the 1500-meter run, Oliver DiCerbo continued to improve his time, as he set a personal-best of 3:57.44 for 17th out of 72 competitors. In the 200-meter dash, Jake McCann finished 16th with a time of 22.12, and Caleb Zell- Ratner was .01 second behind, finishing 17th with a time of 22.13. Juniors Elijah Van Farowe and Drew Carpenter both had personal-bests in the 5,000-meter run, as Van Farowe finished in 16:30.87, while Carpenter clocked in at 16:36.37.


Field 

Justin King picked up a point in the hammer throw with a personal-best toss of 44.43m for eighth place. The throw marks an almost four meter personal-record for the junior. King also scored a point in the shot put, throwing for a mark of 14.54m in his impressive day. Senior Justin Tharayil finished 14th in the high jump with a mark of 1.80m, and first-year Samuel Pfitzenmayer had a top-15 finish in the hammer throw, placing 14th (39.38m).

Up Next: Denison returns tomorrow for the second day of action, as men's javelin kicks off the field events, while the men's 10k starts off the running events.
