Women’s Track and Field Kick Off Outdoor Season at Home

Granville, Ohio - The Denison women's track and field team yet again started off their outdoor season at home in the Lid-Lifter meet, where multiple Big Red earned top-three finishes, and was capped off by a couple of first-place finishes by Hannah Grudzien and the 4x800 relay team, who set a new school record. The day saw competition spanning from numerous divisions, while gaining experience for the outdoor season ahead.

Sprints/Distance

Senior Emily Brennan highlighted the sprint events with a first-place time of 26.19 to get the ball rolling for the Big Red. In the 800-meter dash, Shaylee Murdough capped off the event with a second place time of 2:23.76, and Floralysse Biteau also gained second in the 5000-meter run, timing a personal-best 18:47.04 in her sophomore outdoor debut. Also in the 200-meter dash, Ryan Singer notched a top-five finish, placing fourth with a personal-best time of 26.60. A pair of Big Red placed in the top-five in the 400-meter dash, as Stevie Combs finished third with a time of 1:00.71, and Mira Renaldi fifth with a personal-best of 1:02.57. Lily Reaser finished seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.80 to round out the sprints and distance.

In the relays, Denison picked up a pair of first place times, as the 4x400 team of Emily Brennan, Stevie Combs, Ava Sinex, and Abby McChesney placed first with a time of 4:08.78, and the 4x800 quartet of Jane McNamara, Amelia Anderson, Hanna Hack, and Shaylee Murdough also finished first with a time of 9:50.60 for a new school record.

Field

Fresh off of a national championship, Hannah Grudzien wasted no time obtaining another first-place finish, as she threw for 34.06m in the javelin to take home first in her very first meet and appearance. The mark now ranks third all-time in Denison history. In the hammer throw, Mariel Drost notched second with a throw 43.50m, and Bianchi took second in the triple jump as well with a mark of 9.91m. Sydney Flores earned a pair of top-three finishes, throwing for 40.02m for third in the discus, and was second in shot put with a mark of 12.85m. Singer was not far behind with a fourth-place showing in discus, throwing for 37.51m.

Up Next for the Big Red

Denison will make the short trip North to NCAC rival Ohio Wesleyan for the Marv Frye Invitational on Saturday, April 4.
