Men’s Lacrosse Drops First Conference Battle At Ohio Wesleyan

Box Score Delaware, Ohio - In a matchup of NCAC powers, the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops came out on top over Denison 12-9 in Delaware. Ohio Wesleyan scored six unanswered in the fourth quarter to come-from-behind and scoop up the conference win. The Big Red were led by Brady Monturio, who recorded a hat trick. Ohio Wesleyan improves to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while Denison drops to 2-7 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Denison came out of the gates firing, as Michael Cassidy kicked the game off with a goal in the first two minutes from an assist from Jack Moellering to go up 1-0. Monturio leveled up that act, scoring a hat trick in the first quarter to give the Big Red a 4-0. The Bishops then stopped the bleeding with a strike of their own, giving Denison a three-goal advantage heading into the second quarter.

The Big Red kept up the defensive pressure to start the second quarter, and a goal from Teddy Hardy gave Denison a 5-1 early on. Ohio Wesleyan would then flip the script, scoring four unanswered to close out the first half tied up at 5 a piece. Denison had a total of 23 shots in the first half, with 10 being on target. Andrew Albert stayed busy in the net, saving 11 shots.

In the third, Denison started to find their footing again, with another goal from Moellering giving Denison the short lead before Ohio Wesleyan tied the contest up 6-6. From there, the Big Red rattled off three goals to end the third quarter from Liam Gillard, Cassidy, and Kevin Berutich for a 9-6 lead heading into the fourth. It was Cassidy's second goal of the game. Unfortunately, the Bishops would catch fire just as they did in the second quarter, scoring six unanswered in the fourth quarter to win 12-9. Denison had three shots on goal in comparison to Ohio Wesleyan's 10, and only won one faceoff in the final frame of play.
