Denison Places Fifth at CSA Divisional Championship, Defeat Bates and Wesleyan in Summers Cup Consolation

Philadelphia, Pa. - In day two of the CSA Divisional Championships, the Big Red men's squash team gutted out a close 5-4 victory against Bates College to continue their run in the consolation rounds, and finished off Wesleyan University to capture fifth in the Summers Cup, and finish 25th overall in the CSA. Denison had two intense five-set wins and a couple of sweeps in the backend to help seal the deal with a win. In the fifth place game, Denison met with Wesleyan in a rematch of a bout that was played earlier in the season, and were able to upend their opponent 6-3.

Denison rolled in the No. 8 and No. 9 flights, as Wylly Molten IV and Rayyan Arif controlled their way with two sweeps for the Big Red. Charlie Fenwick added another sweep in the three slot to give Denison another win, but would see Bates clinching wins through their five and seven spots to make the match close. What became a defining moment in the match was two five-game thrillers from Nate Cukierman and Alex DeLuca. DeLuca won his match after being down two games and rallying back to win. Cukierman had the longest and most important match of the day, defeating his opponent 3-2 in which three sets needed to be decided in extra sets. The team will now play in the Summers Cup Consolation Finals, the farthest they have gone in the Summers Cup in program history.

In their second matchup this season, Denison came out on top once again after strong play in the front end and the back end. The top four spots all secured victories, and only lost one game between all four. Felipe Hernandez shined once again, and Fenwick had yet another dominant win. Molten and Arif cleaned up in the backend, with Molten sweeping his opponent while Arif won three-straight games after being down one to give Denison a total of six wins and clinch fifth place in the Summers Cup at the CSA Divisional Championships.
