No. 1 Denison Suffers First Loss of the Season in the ITA Indoor Championship Semifinals

Box Score St. Peter, Minn. - The Denison men's tennis team battled in a matchup against No. 2 University of Chicago, but fell short 4-3 in the ITA Indoor Championship semifinals. The Big Red swept the Maroons in doubles to pick up the early point, but fell short in singles play as Chicago took home the victory. Chicago improves to 5-1, while Denison falls to 5-1.

Doubles: The Big Red came out hot, as the top duo Ethan Green and Kael Shah rolled past their opponents 6-1 in just 25 minutes. Andreas Chapides and Nick Meyers followed up their performance with a gritty win sealing the first point for Denison. Wesley Huang and Jacob Patterson completed the sweep in the No. 2 flight, defeating Jack Wong and Robert Zhang 7-5.

Singles: The Maroons started to pick things up in singles, rattling off three-straight wins within a four minute span to take a 3-1 lead. Andreas Chapides defeated Christian Liew in the No. 4 flight 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 to bring the Big Red back within one. Ultimately, Emil Grantcharov was able to cap off the win in the No. 2 spot over Ethan Green, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 to go up 4-2 and clinch the win. Nick Meyers was able to pick up the final victory in the No. 5 flight, and the final score being 4-3, giving the Big Red their first loss of the season.
