Granville, Ohio - Denison Athletics welcomes
Sophia Halliday as the assistant coach for the Denison Big Red softball team.
Raised just 25 minutes west of Granville in New Albany, Halliday joins the staff after recently graduating from the University of Oregon, where she received her bachelor's in Human Physiology and was an athletic training intern for the Ducks Football and Softball Programs.
"I am so excited to have Coach Halliday join the staff to work with our offense. She brings an in-depth understanding of the biomechanical side of hitting, which I believe our athletes will thrive on. Additionally, she brings great energy and comes in with a team-first mindset. I look forward to the creativity she will bring to help our hitters reach their goals on the field," said Head Coach Adriene Henery.
Halliday has extensive experience in softball, as she was a four-year letterwinner at New Albany High School and played 10 years of travel softball. She also volunteered at a youth softball training camp for four years to deepen her knowledge of the game.
"Denison University has been woven into my family's story for generations. My grandparents met here more than 60 years ago, and my father was a track and field athlete during his time on campus," said Halliday. "Having grown up visiting Denison, admiring the energy and tradition, I'm honored to be a part of this amazing university that helped shape the people I admire most. I look forward to meeting new people, embracing new opportunities, and making a meaningful impact during my time at Denison."
In addition to her softball experience, Halliday also worked for the University of Oregon Recreation Department as a trainer for Webfoot CrossFit, where she instructed classes for over two years.
The Big Red will kick its season off at the NFCA Leadoff Classic down in Columbus, Georgia on Friday, March 6, at 3 p.m.
