Granville, Ohio- (May 27, 2025) The 2024-25 College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District® Softball Team was released recently, and five Denison University Softball team members were selected.

Senior trio Jacqui Abogado, Annabelle Calderon, and Sydney Silverstein each earned their second CSC Academic All-District® Softball Team nod, while juniors Brooke Surbaugh and Indy Workman earned a spot on the CSC Academic All-District® Softball Team for the first time in their career, for their performance on the field and in the classroom.

Abogado, a senior infielder from Naperville, Ill., earned her second CSC Academic All-District® nod after a dominant senior season. She finished the 2025 season with All-NCAC second team honors for the second consecutive year. En route to her all-conference honors, she etched her name in the Denison Softball record books, tallying the second most home runs in a season, 11, and is now tied for sixth in program history with fellow senior Calderon for most runs batted in (39). Abogado also finished the sixth season in program history with the highest slugging percentage (.714). Her performance on the field also garnered her the chance to advance as an Academic All-America® candidate.

Calderon, a senior catcher from Perris, Calif., continues to be honored for her leadership and dominance on and off the field for her senior season. Most recently, Calderon was named Diamond Sports/NFCA Catcher of the Year and earned NFCA Region VII first team honors. She wrapped the 2025 season with one single-season record and three career records. Calderon totaled 20 doubles in her final season as a Big Red, and holds the most career home runs (35), highest career batting average (.423), the most career doubles (56), and the highest career slugging percentage (.822). Her performance has earned her the opportunity to advance as an Academic All-America® candidate.

Silverstein, a senior pitcher from Atlanta, Ga., has wrapped her senior season with numerous accolades. Most recently, she was named to the Region VII third team for her performance in the circle this season. Her dominance in the circle has moved her up in the Denison Softball pitching record books; she is tied for most shutouts in a season (13), is second in most game starts in a career (69), and third in program history for most career victories (44). This year, she posted a 17-6 record with a 1.59 ERA, striking out 118 batters throughout 158.2 innings. A performance that's provided an opportunity to advance as an Academic All-America® candidate.

Fellow pitcher, Brooke Surbaugh, a junior from San Bruno, Calif., earned her first Academic All-District® honor. Surbaugh finished her third season with the Big Red as an All-NCAC second team member. In conference play, she held a 5-2 record and an ERA of 0.85. She had 22 strikeouts in NCAC play, and at the plate, she tallied eight home runs throughout the season, which was the third most home runs in the conference. After the 2025 season, Surbaugh is fifth in program history in most career shutouts with 11 and is ninth in career strikeouts with 194.

Workman, a junior infielder from Greene County, Ind., was named to the Academic All-District® team for the first time in her career. Workman started in all 35 games, was second on the team with 27 runs, and third on the team in total hits (36). Defensively, she recorded a .987 fielding percentage at second base and was third on the team with 76 putouts.
