Granville, Ohio- College Sports Communicators recently released their Academic All-District® teams for softball, and three Denison student-athletes were honored for their hard work in the classroom.
Sophomore outfielder Alex Longstreth, from Carmel, Indiana, earns her first Academic All-District® award. A Biochemistry, Longstreth played and started in 39 of the Big Red's 41 games this year. She tallied 19 runs this season and led the team in stolen base attempts (9-10). Longstreth recorded 41 putouts, eight double plays, and had a fielding percentage of .977. Off the field, she was named a James T. Glerum '82 Top-50 Scholar-Athlete, an honor that celebrates the top 50 Denison student-athletes of sophomore standing or higher, based on grade point average.
Senior pitcher Brooke Surbaugh, from San Bruno, California, for the second consecutive year, was named to the CSC Academic All-District® team. The Economics major played a crucial role in Denison's late-season run to win their first NCAC tournament since 2012. In the circle, Surbaugh wrapped her career with a 9-11 record, where she recorded three saves and pitched a total of 119.1 innings, striking out 71. At the plate, she led the team in slugging percentage (.529), RBIs (31), and home runs (5).
Senior infielder Indy Workman, from Greene County, Indiana, earned her second CSC Academic All-District® team award for her efforts on and off the field. Workman, a Data Analytics major, finished fifth on the team in batting average with .319 and 17 RBIs. She led the team in walks, breaking the program's career walks record with 79 total walks. Defensively, Workman was tied for second in assists with 78, was a part of 5 double plays, and tallied 56 putouts, resulting in a .944 fielding percentage.
