Evanston, Ill. (Jan. 31-Feb. 1)- The Denison women's fencing team traveled to No. 6 Northwestern University for the annual Schiller Duals inside Ryan Fieldhouse. The Big Red wrapped the two-day competition with a 5-3 record. Denison will return to Granville, Ohio, to host the 2026 Central Collegiate Fencing Conference Championships on Saturday, February 21, through Sunday, February 22.

Day One Notables

Denison kicked off the Schiller Duals with a 2-2 team record. The Big Red beat Division I Fairleigh Dickinson (19-8) and Detroit Mercy (23-4), and had some close losses to Division I powerhouses UC San Diego (11-16) and #11 Stanford (11-16). Despite falling to UC San Diego and Stanford, those two matchups represented the program's best results against those two programs. Denison was set to fence Ohio State in the sixth round; however, the Buckeyes withdrew from fencing the Big Red, providing an extended amount of time to rest ahead of their final two bouts of the day.

The Foil and Sabre squads each came out on top with 5-4 squad victories over UC San Diego. Against Stanford, the Epee squad held a commanding 7-2 victory in its 11-16 loss to the Cardinals.

Individuals who stood out on day one included senior saberist Natalie Isberg, who earned her 200th career win. Junior saberist Corvus Endo was undefeated on the day with a 6-0 record. Senior Velma Hall led the foil squad with a 9-3 record across day one, while first-year Tessa Randleman paced the epee squad with an 8-2 record.

Day Two Highlights:

Similar to day one, the Big Red showed off its talents while facing off with No. 14 Temple, the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW), Wheaton College, and Lawrence University. Denison took on No. 14 Temple first, and although they fell 11-16 to the top-20 team, it was once again one of the smallest loss margins against this team in program history.

Following the tightly contested loss to Temple, the Big Red bounced back, finding its footing quickly on the strip, defeating UIW 22-5. Denison would tack on another two victories following the lunch break, defeating Wheaton 23-4, and in the sixth round, Denison beat  Lawrence 22-5, bringing the Big Red's weekend record to 5-3.
