Granville, Ohio - Gwen Bakker of the Denison women's swim and dive team and
Ada Taute of the women's basketball team have been named North Coast Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week after outstanding performances on the court and in the pool.
This past week against Oberlin and John Carroll, Taute would finish the week with 29 points, averaging 14.5 a game, five steals per game, shot 46 percent from the field, 40 percent from three, having six rebounds per game, and one assist per game. Taute has moved to fifth in the conference in field goal percentage and assists, and in just 43 games at Denison, Taute has surpassed 250 total rebounds. With Taute's help, the women's basketball team stays undefeated with a 16-0 record with the wins, while also claiming their first win against a ranked team since the 2016-17 season.
During the Carnegie Mellon Duel, Bakker helped the 200 medley relay finish with a time of 1:43.43, finishing first along with Jassy Park, Phoebe Ferguson, and Ollie Morse. In her main solo events in the 100 and 200 Breast, Bakker would finish with times of 1:03.22 and 2:16.63, respectively, finishing first in both events for the B-Cut, and helping the Big Red to a 214-74 win over the Tartans.
The women's basketball team will be home tomorrow against Wittenberg at 5:45 p.m., while the women's swimming and diving team will be home this weekend for Senior Day against Ohio Wesleyan this Saturday at 10 a.m.
