No. 18 Big Red Soars Past the Owls to Keep Undefeated Streak Alive

GRANVILLE, Ohio — No. 18 Denison Women's Basketball extended its undefeated season with a dominant 85–54 win over Kenyon on Saturday. The Big Red jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Owls 27–14 in the first quarter, and never looked back.  Denison improved to 13–0, while Kenyon falls to 4–8.

1st Quarter: Abby Cooch opened the scoring with a three-pointer and followed it up with a layup. Midway through the quarter, the Big Red went on an 11–1 run to build a 16–5 lead with under five minutes remaining. Brooke Toigo and Anelly Mad-toingué added another spark with a layup and a three. Cooch then poured in six more points in the final two minutes, and after the Owls tried to find answers offensively, she capped the quarter at the free-throw line to give the Big Red a 27–14 advantage. 

2nd Quarter: Kenyon looked to chip away at the deficit by matching Denison point for point to open the quarter, but the Big Red answered with a 7–1 run to extend the lead to 20 with under six minutes remaining. Abby Cooch knocked down a three with 3:44 left to maintain the advantage at 41–21, followed by a bucket from Isabelle McFadden. Ada Taute added a trio of free throws to close out the half, as Denison carried a 49–28 lead into the break while forcing 14 Kenyon turnovers in the first half alone. 

3rd Quarter: The Big Red came out of the half on fire, starting with a 12-0 run before Kenyon could get on the board midway through the third quarter. McFadden then knocked down a three-pointer to extend Denison's lead to 64–31 with 4:12 remaining. Taute closed out the quarter with a layup, putting the score at 68–38.

4th Quarter: Some fresh faces stepped onto the court to start the final quarter, with Katie Houpt opening the scoring with a layup. Molly Dorighi added a pair of free throws midway through, extending Denison's lead to 74–45. Maeve Perry followed with a layup, and Izzy Arguelles hit a step-back jumper with four minutes left, putting the Big Red ahead 78–50. Jamie Elliott capped off the game with a three-pointer, sealing an 83–52 victory over Kenyon.

Top Performances: 
  • Ada Taute led the way with 10 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and five steals.

  • Abby Cooch contributed 21 points, five rebounds, and an assist.

  • Anelly Mad-toingué finished with nine points, six rebounds, five blocks, and a steal.

  • Brooke Toigo added 10 points, a block, and a steal.
Statstics Leaders: 
  • Anelly Mad-toingué tops the conference in blocked shots with 36 and ranks second in rebounds with 118.

  • Ada Taute sits second in the conference for assists (49), fifth in steals (29), and sixth in rebounds (93).

  • Abby Cooch ranks third in the conference for assists (48) and sixth in scoring (175).
