ROCHESTER, Mich.: Inside the OU Aquatic Center, the Denison women's swimming and diving team took on Miami (Ohio) and host school Oakland University for its first meet of the New Year. The Big Red and the Golden Grizzlies haven't swam against each other in over 25 years, with their last meet dating back to the 1998-99 season.Â
Head-to-Head Results
In the Big Red's head-to-head against host institution Oakland, they trail the Golden Grizzlies 118-68, and against the Redhawks, Denison trails Miami 124-62. On day two of the tri-meet, Denison fell to the Golden Grizzlies 207-146 and lost to the Redhawks of Miami 236-117.
Top performances:
On day one of the tri-meet, Emily Harris earned one of the two Big Red's first-place finishes of the day after swimming the 400 IM in 4:20.06. Also earning a first-place finish was Riley Tofflemire, who swam the 100 Breast in 1:03.69 for first, followed by fellow junior Gwen Bakker in second place (1:03.71). Rounding out Denison's top-three finishes on day one was Phoebe Ferguson, who finished in third place in the 100 Fly with a time of 56.42. Harris, Ollie Morse, Ferguson, and Quinn Brown would complete the day with a third-place finish in the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:26.96
On day two, Denison had two teams in the top five of the 400 Medley Relay. Most notably, the team of Hailey Kaminski, Tofflemire, Harris, and Anderson finished the relay in 3:47.28 for third place. Notching another top-three finish was Quinn Brown, who took third in the 1000 Free after swimming it in 10:14.86. Emily Harris continued to have a strong weekend in Rochester, taking first place in the 200 IM (2:03.47) and in the 200 Fly(2:00.95). Caroline Ramirez would take home third in the 200 Back, with a time of 2:01.13, while Gwen Bakker earned her second top-three finish of the weekend after swimming the 200 Breast in 2:18.12 for second place.
To close out the weekend in Michigan, two Denison relays tied for third place with a time of 1:34.87 in the 200 Free relay. Denison's A relay was made up by Morse, Ramirez, Isobel Glover, and Ferguson, and the B relay team was made up of Maddie Schaefer, Harris, Anderson, and Kaminski.
