Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Denison men's tennis team headed north for the ITA Central Regional Championships hosted by Kalamazoo College, and the Big Red got off to a hot start in both the singles and doubles categories, as two out of the three doubles advanced to the round of 16 and all singles advanced to the round of 32.

Senior Ethan Green will look to defend his singles title, as last year he defeated Ansh Shah of Case Western Reserve University to claim the Central Regional Championship. Green's partner and fellow senior Kael Shah will look to make a run again as well, as last season he advanced to the semifinals and lost to Green. Both Green and Shah advanced to the round of 16 in doubles after a dominant performance in the round of 32. Senior Jacob Patterson and first-year Arya Ganapathy Kallambella lost their first match of the day, but rebounded in the consolation round, winning their match 8-1 to reach the consolation round of 16.

All singles received a bye their first round and won their first match in the round of 64, most notably Anthony Payiavlas, who defeated Michael Mascarin of Adrian in the only three set match of the day in singles for the Big Red. The Big Red surrendered just 23 games across the six players in singles matches.

Play will resume tomorrow at 8 am, with Green/ Shah and Meyers/ Chapides starting off in doubles play. Singles will start at 10:30 am, and quarterfinals play will begin on Sunday (TBA).
