Erik Sundgren of the Denison Baseball team has been named to the Academic All-America® Second Team, as selected by the College Sports Communicators for the 2024-25 season.
Sundgren (Pittsburgh, Penn. | Applied Mathmatics), had a dominant 2025 campaign, resulting in him earning ABCA First Team All-America honors as well as Region VII's Player of the Year. He finished the Big Red's historical season batting .388, with 76 hits, 81 RBIs, and 54 runs. His efforts at the plate led to 17 home runs for the season, breaking Denison's previous program record of 13 home runs in a single season. His 17 home runs also placed him tenth in the nation. In the outfield Sundgren recorded a career high 84 putouts, had three assists and no errors for a 1.000 fielding percentage.
This achievement raises Denison's total to 128 Academic All-Americans® in school history. Sundgren earned his first Academic All-America® honors, adding to baseball's Academic All-America® recognition, which now totals ten. He is the third player to receive second-team honors.
Established in 1952, the Academic All-America® program, selected by College Sports Communicators, is a premier nationwide college scholar-athlete awards program. It annually recognizes over 1,400 outstanding student-athletes across Division I, II, III, and NAIA, representing all NCAA championship sports.
