Box Score Lexington, Ky.- The No. 4 Denison Big Red baseball team traveled south to Kentucky for a midweek matchup versus the Pioneers of Transylvania University. Transylvania, reigning from the Heartland Conference, presents against the Big Red with a 13-10 record and is currently on a four-game winning streak. After weather claimed Sunday's doubleheader, this marks Denison's first game in eight days. This game marks the eighth all-time matchup between the two schools. Denison was able to get back in the winning column with a 14-4 decision.
Up Next: The Big Red will play four games this weekend. On Saturday, Denison will continue NCAC action with a double header at Oberlin College. On Sunday, the squad will return to Big Red Field to host Marietta for an OAC-NCAC crossover doubleheader.

The Pioneers had their hands full in the batter's box, facing off against a slew of Denison's top arms throughout the game. Senior righty Nick Falter got the start, followed by sophomore Pete Lemke, and junior Will Rettig. On the season, this trio has combined for 12 wins and 94 strikeouts. In a revolving door of pitchers, Ryan Starr, Sam Larson, and Mikey Gray slammed the door shut in the 9.0 inning victory. The staff combined for 13 strikeouts.
The offense started at a methodical pace before breaking the door down with four runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead. Following a three-run bomb by Cade Nowik and a line drive single from Jack Lutte in the fifth inning, the Big Red commanded a 9-1 lead. The Big Red would go on to tack on five more runs throughout the matchup, courtesy of RBIs from Jack Rollo, Andrew Fazio, Jake Blozy, and Erik Sundgren. Rollo capped off the night with a solo shot homer in the top of the ninth inning to seal the mercy rule victory in walkoff style.
The offense was led by Cade Nowik and Jack Lutte, each of which added three RBIs to their season total. Additionally, Garrett Smith collected is first career hit with a base hit to right field.
