Denison Wraps Weekend at Vertklasse Meeting with Solid Performances

High Point, N.C.- The Denison University women's track and field team traveled to High Point University for the 18th annual Vertklasse Meeting inside the Vert Stadium. Denison was one of 40+ institutions to compete in the two-day meet.

Throughout the two-day meet, multiple team members recorded top-20 finishes, personal bests, and found themselves on the Denison women's outdoor track and field top-10 list.

Six members of the team finished the weekend with top-20 finishes. Emily Brennan ran the 400M hurdles in 1:05.20 for 10th place, placing her fifth in the program's top ten times. In the 3000m steeplechase, Lexi Verdell ran a 12:10.89 for 11th place and secured the ninth-fastest time in program history. Earning 14th in high jump, freshman Julia Schena cleared a height of 1.45m. In pole vault, Catelyn Gagnier finished in 16th place after clearing a height of 3.32m, placing her second on the top ten list. Junior Sydney Flores threw a distance of 11.63m in shot put, placing her in the program's top-ten list. The final individual Big Red, who placed in the top 20, was sophomore Fiona Martinelli, who ran a personal best 4:52.81 in the 1500m run.

Along with the six top 20 finishers, another half dozen members recorded results that landed them on the program's top ten lists. In field events, Mariel Drost threw a distance of 38.32m in hammer throw, placing her ninth on the program's top ten list. Schena cleared a distance of 10.52m in triple jump for the fourth-best distance in program history, while Emery Kurth earned the sixth spot on Denison's top ten list in triple jump after jumping a distance of 10.44m.
 


Around the track Mira Renaldi would recorded the fifth fastest 100m hurdles time of 15.39 in programs top ten list. In the 200m dash Anaya Jolivette ran a 25.12, which places her fourth on the top-ten list, while teammate Piper Lee ran a personal best 1:00.70 in the 400m dash to earn a spot on the top ten list for the 400m dash.
