Greensboro, N.C. (March 19, 2025)- Following day one of the 2025 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, the No. 1 Denison University men's team is in first place through five of 20 events. The Big Red totaled 115 points after one full day of competition. Tied for second place is Carnigie Mellon and Centre with 60 points, followed by Kenyon in fourth with 59.
Denison kicked off the 2025 championships with a strong start, putting one swimmer into the championship final and three in the consultation final in the first event, the 500 freestyle.
Tyler Distenfeld qualified for the championships and finished in sixth place with a time of 4:25.51, shaving two seconds off his prelim time. In the consultation finals,
George Goins finished in ninth (4:23.37), swimming six seconds faster than his prelim race.
Lucas Conrads came in 11th place(4:25.97), followed by teammate
Christian McIntire, who took 14th with a time of 4:31.24.
In the 200 IM, the Big Red's
Patrick Daly and
Devin Testin qualified for the A final while teammate
Gavin Jones qualified for the B final. Daly would swim the 200 IM in 1:46.26 for a second place finish, a one second improvement from the previous year and his fourth straight All-American honor in the event. Joining Daly as a First-Team All-American was Testin, who finished fifth with a time of 1:47.67. Jones swam the 200 IM in 1:48.62 for 12th place. Denison's
Nick Hensel earned the lone B final qualification in the 50 free, swimming it in 20.03 for tenth place and his first All-American finish as a Big Red.
Nick Fogle improved his finish from the previous year, finishing 8th in the 3-meter diving board with an A finals score of 482.85, almost a 40-points better than his 2024 score. This marks his second first-team All-American finish, his other first-team nod was in the 1-meter dive at the 2024 championships.
In the final event of the night, the 400 medley relay, the Big Red finished fourth.
