Pittsburgh, Pa. (Feb. 1) – Facing a tough test against No. 19 Chatham, the No. 29 Denison men's squash team put up a fight but ultimately fell 8-1 on the road. The Big Red showed resilience across several matches, pushing their higher-ranked opponent in multiple tight contests.
Denison's lone victory came at the No. 1 spot, where Juan Felipe Hernandez delivered a gutsy five-game performance to defeat Chatham's Jared Nalliah (6-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-6, 11-9). Hernandez's ability to respond under pressure proved critical and helped secure the win in a tightly contested final game.
Despite the final scoreline, Denison made Chatham earn its wins in several matchups. At No. 5, Alex DeLuca pushed his opponent to the brink in a five-game battle, ultimately falling just short (12-10, 7-11, 10-12, 11-5, 11-5). Owen Mullaly also tested his opponent in the No. 9 spot, forcing another five-game showdown before dropping the match (5-11, 11-8, 10-12, 11-6, 11-7).
The Big Red now shift their focus to the Liberty League Championship next weekend, where they will compete at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y.
