Box Score Granville, Ohio — Denison women's soccer closed out the regular season on a high note with a 3-1 win over Kenyon on Saturday afternoon at Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium.
After the Owls struck first in the 23rd minute, the Big Red responded with three unanswered goals to secure the victory.
Kenyon opened the scoring, but Denison quickly found its rhythm. In the 32nd minute, Mattie Mielke leveled the match with a header off a perfectly placed cross from the right side by Reily Brinley. Less than two minutes later, Mielke turned playmaker, sending in a corner that the goalkeeper couldn't get a grip on, allowing Avery Butler to capitalize for her first goal of the season and give Denison the lead heading into halftime.
The Big Red carried that momentum into the second half, with Ella Palmer adding an insurance goal in the 56th minute, again assisted by Brinley.
Denison outshot Kenyon 16-8 and held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks, while goalkeeper Molly Noga made four saves to preserve the win.
The result moves Denison to 8-4-5 overall and 3-1-3 in NCAC play, while Kenyon falls to 9-3-5 and 3-2-2.Â
With the win, the Big Red will now wait to see where they land in the NCAC standings and determine their path in the conference tournament.
