MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (Jan. 18-19) — Denison University men's squash team delivered a series of competitive matches over the weekend, claiming a decisive win against higher ranked No. 25 Haverford College while narrowly falling in hard-fought battles against No. 28 Connecticut College and No. 26 Wesleyan University.
Denison 7, Haverford College 2
Denison kicked off the weekend with a dominant 7-2 victory over Haverford College. Leading the charge was
Juan Felipe Hernandez at the one spot, who cruised to a 3-0 (11-6, 11-8, 11-2) win.
Tarun Mammen and
Charlie Fenwick IV followed with commanding 3-0 wins at 2S and 3S, respectively.
Lucas Piller and
Alex DeLuca displayed resilience in their matches, both emerging victorious in five-game battles.
Ross Falcon wrapped up the sweep of the top six positions with a 3-0 (11-6, 11-3, 11-2) win. At 9S,
Rayan Dar added to the win column with a solid 3-1 performance.
Connecticut College 5, Denison 4
In the closest match of the weekend, Denison fell to Connecticut College in a 5-4 thriller.
Juan Felipe Hernandez showcased his determination with a come-from-behind 3-2 (10-12, 7-11, 11-9, 11-4, 11-9) victory at 1S.
Jackson Bragman delivered a dominant performance at 7S, winning decisively in straight games, while
Gus Nelson earned a solid 3-1 victory at 8S. Wylly Molten wrapped up Denison's scoring with another strong 3-1 win at 9S after 42 minutes of excellent play. Despite their efforts, Denison came up just short, with several close matches.
Ross Falcon endured a heartbreaking five-game defeat at the six spot, narrowly losing to Noah Fish 3-2 (12-10, 11-1, 10-12, 10-12, 10-12) after 46 minutes of intense play.
Wesleyan University 5, Denison 4
In a closely contested matchup, the Denison University men's squash team came up just short, falling 5-4 to Wesleyan University. The match featured strong individual performances from both teams. Leading the charge for Denison was
Juan Felipe Hernandez at the No. 1 spot, who cruised to a 3-0 victory (11-1, 13-11, 11-7).
Tarun Mammen at No. 2 also put together an impressive performance, securing another 3-0 win.
At No. 3,
Charlie Fenwick IV demonstrated resilience in a hard-fought 3-1 victory (11-8, 9-11, 11-4, 11-8). Rounding out the wins for Denison was
Alex DeLuca who battled for nearly an hour to earn his 3-2 win at the no. 5 spot.
Weekend Highlights
Juan Felipe Hernandez was a standout for the Big Red, going undefeated across the weekend and earning key victories at the top of the lineup. In a competitive weekend of play, the Big Red earned several hard-fought wins over ranked opponents. Despite Haverford being ranked five spots higher, Denison performed at a high level and delivered a great upset.
The Big Red will return to action on February 1
st traveling to No. 21 Chatham University.
