SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Jan. 10) – The Denison University men's squash team concluded their winter training trip with a challenging 9-0 team match loss to No. 10 Tufts University.
Despite the overall result, Denison displayed grit and determination throughout the lineup. In a match that lasted over 40 minutes, first year Alex DeLuca earned a hard-fought game victory in the No. 4 position, winning his opening game 11-9 before falling in four (11-9, 11-1, 11-8, 11-7).
In the No. 2 spot, senior Tarun Mamman came close in his final game, scoring eight points, while junior Juan Felipe Hernandez put up a strong fight in the No. 1 match, earning eight points in his first game. Across the board, the Big Red faced stiff competition, gaining valuable experience heading into the spring season.
"While the results didn't go our way, the guys gave their best efforts," said Head Coach Michael MacDonald. "This match showed us where we need to improve as we get closer to the heart of the season. I'm confident in our ability to make those adjustments and am looking forward to next weekend."
Denison will regroup and prepare for the rest of their spring season as they return to Granville.
