Ethan Green secures individual title at ITA Central Regional Championships

Box Score
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Sept. 22) – Denison University junior Ethan Green made it a weekend to remember at the 2024 ITA Division III Central Regional Men's Tennis Championships. The four-day event, which was hosted by the Washington University in St. Louis concluded on Monday.

Green, who advanced into the semifinals last year at the ITA Central Regional Championships, would not be denied this time. Green picked up five wins on his way to the singles championship at the event. Green teamed with Kael Shah to earn runner-up honors in the doubles championship.

Green's quest to the individual title began with a win over Evan Walther of Wheaton in the round of 64 on Friday.  Then on Friday, Green then picked up victories over Alejandro Gonzalez of Kenyon in three sets in the round of 32. Green later added a straight set win over Alexander Ekstrand of Chicago to move on to the quarterfinals.

Green advanced into the semifinals after his opponent withdrew due to an injury. Green matched up with teammate Kael Shah in the semifinals, winning the first set before moving on due to retirement.

Green faced off with Ansh Shah of Case Western Reserve in the championship match on Monday. Shah picked up the first set by a 6-2 score. Green countered with a 6-1 in the second set to force a deciding third set. Green picked up the 7-5 victory in the third to take the championship.

The regional championship qualifies Green for All-American status.

Kael Shah picked up four wins before falling to Patterson in the semifinal round. All four of Shah's victories came in straight sets.

Jacob Patterson recorded three victories to advance into the quarterfinals before falling to Shah of CWRU. Each of his victories came in straight sets.

Green and Shah led Denison with a runner-up finish in doubles action. The tandem tallied four wins in doubles play with relative ease. Their closest margin of victory came by an 8-5 score in the semifinals win over Patricio Garcio Muriel Pasquel/Stefan Hester of Wash U.

The duo fell by scores of 6-3, 6-4 in the title match to Emil Grantcharov and Derek Hsieh of Chicago.

Denison returns to action at the Skidmore Invitational in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. on Oct. 12-13.
