GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 11, 2024) – The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame has announced the members of the 2024 Hampshire Honor Society. Among the selected recipients are eight members of the Big Red's graduating class of 2024.
Denison's list of honorees included seniors
Jon Adamson,
Connor Kratzert,
Ryan Lally,
Jack Nimesheim,
Sam Secrest,
Austin Smith,
Jimmy Stines and
Brian Stone.
Adamson, a tight end from Barrington, Rhode Island, brought in 35 receptions for 369 yards this season, both of which were career-highs, and scored two receiving touchdowns during Denison's 55-24 win at Hiram College (Sept. 23) to earn a spot to the D3Football.com Team of the Week. He averaged 10.5 yards per reception and 36.9 receiving yards per game and finished third on the team in receiving yards. In the North Coast Athletic Conference, Adamson ranked 15th in receptions and was 20th in receiving yards en route to earning his first-career All-NCAC honor (third-team). He is a Data Analytics major with a 3.25 cumulative GPA.
Kratzert, a defensive lineman from Chagrin Falls, Ohio, had nine total tackles, including four solo tackles and five assisted tackles this season, and tied his career-high with three tackles against Ohio Wesleyan University (Nov. 11). He is an Economics major with a 3.24 cumulative GPA.
Lally, a defensive lineman from Cincinnati, Ohio, started in all 10 games for the Big Red and had one tackle for a loss of six yards against Wittenberg (Sept. 30). He is a Health, Exercise, and Sport Studies (HESS) major with a 3.37 cumulative GPA.
Nimesheim, a linebacker/defensive back from Northfield, Illinois, finished second on the Big Red with 70 tackles, was fifth on the squad with 4.5 tackles for loss, and was one of three players with two interceptions. He also added three pass breakups, one sack and one fumble recovery, and set a career-high in tackles, tackles for loss and pass breakups. Nimesheim was ranked 13th in the NCAC in total tackles and was tied for 31st in tackles for loss as he earned his first-career All-NCAC certificate (third-team) and was a member of the Academic All-District® Team for the second year in a row. Nimesheim finishes his career at Denison with 125 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, four interceptions, four pass breakups and one fumble recovery. At this year's James T. Glerum '82 Top-50 Scholar-Athlete Honors Celebration (Apr. 1), Nimesheim received the North Coast Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete Award, which is given to a senior student-athlete who boasts a minimum GPA of 3.50 and has contributed significantly to the accomplishments of their team. He is a Journalism major with a 3.83 cumulative GPA.
Secrest, a defensive lineman from Lebanon, Ohio, finished the season with 27 tackles, including a career-best 15 solo tackles, and added 1.5 tackles for loss and one sack. He was also tied for fifth on the team with three quarterback hurries. Against the College of Wooster (Oct. 21), Secrest blocked a 47-yard field goal attempt by the Fighting Scots and was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for his efforts. Secrest was also a member of the Academic All-District® Team for the second year in a row. On February 12, 2024, Secrest was honored at the 63rd annual Columbus Chapter of The National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete Award Banquet at the Ohio Union on the campus of The Ohio State University. He is a Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) major with a 3.84 cumulative GPA.
Smith, an offensive lineman from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, participated in all 10 games on the line for the Big Red this season. He is a Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) major with a 3.50 cumulative GPA.
Stines, a quarterback from Loveland, Ohio, recorded 159 completions for 2,274 yards and 24 touchdowns this season. He averaged 14.3 yards per pass and 227.4 yards per game and rushed 68 times for 135 yards, finishing second on the team in rushing yards. Stines had a career-high 386 passing yards in Denison's season opener at Capital University (Sept. 2) and threw a career-high five touchdown passes against Hiram (Sept. 23). He is an Economics major with a 3.20 cumulative GPA.
Stone, an offensive lineman from Anderson, Ohio, was named Second-Team All-NCAC for the second time in his career and earned his third all-conference certificate overall this season after starting all 10 games at center for a Big Red team that finished the season with 1,891 rushing yards on 426 attempts and averaged 189.1 yards per game. He was also a member of the Academic All-District® Team for the second year in a row. He is a Financial Economics major with a 3.63 cumulative GPA.
The honor society is comprised of college football players from all divisions of the NCAA, NAIA and sprint football who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers. An elite group of 1,988 players from 339 schools qualified for membership in 2024, setting a new record for the number of members in a single year during the program's 18-year history. The initiative has now honored 18,386 student-athletes since its inception.
