GAMBIER, Ohio (February 24, 2024) – In preparation for next month's NCAA Division III Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina, the No. 5 Denison University men's swimming team made the short trek to the Steen Aquatics Center seeking National "B" cuts and time drops at the Kenyon Fast Chance Invitational. Among the highlights for Denison were
Gavin Jones, who swam a "B" cut in the 200 freestyle, and
Luke Landis, who made a strong improvement upon his "B" cut time in the 1,650 freestyle, moving him into the top-eight in the country.
In the 50 freestyle, Jones (21.11) was eighth,
Matt Stankivicz (21.17) was ninth,
Luke Dauer (21.27) was 10th and
Elijah Venos (21.54) was 11th; and in the 100 freestyle Dauer (46.25) was fifth,
Ryan Foreback (46.56) was sixth,
Andre Beduschi (46.60) was seventh,
George Wang (46.77) was eighth and Stankivicz (46.80) was ninth.
In the 200 freestyle, Jones was second with his "B" cut of 1:39.28 while
Devin Testin (1:40.14) was fourth and
Christian Narcelles (1:41.69) was seventh.
Tyler Distenfeld picked up the win with a time of 4:35.54 in the 500 freestyle while Landis was first in his 1,650 time trial and swam a "B" cut time of 15:34.39.
In the 100 backstroke,
Shea Card was second with a time of 50.11 seconds while
James Pastore and
Emmett Harmon tied for seventh at 52.28 seconds,
Luke Swiggett was ninth at 52.47 seconds, and Distenfeld was 10th at 54.48 seconds.
Lucas Conrads was fourth in the 200 backstroke at 1:55.31 and
Josh Thomas was third in the 100 breaststroke at 56.03 seconds. Thomas (2:09.08) and
Patrick Daly (2:11.32) were also back-to-back in sixth and seventh place, respectively, in the 200 breaststroke.
Daly was also seventh in the 100 butterfly at 50.56 seconds while Harmon was ninth at 51.11 seconds; and
Max Soja (1:49.38) and
Dylan Escano (1:51.76) took the top-two spots in the 200 butterfly. Soja's time in the 200 butterfly was good for a "B" cut as well, but his first-place time of 1:48.03 in his time trial was even better.
Lastly, Conrads (1:52.91) and
Liam Nelson (1:57.59) took the top-two spots in the 200 IM.
Next up, the Denison divers will be in action on March 1-2 for the 2024 NCAA Division III Central Diving Regional that will be hosted by the Big Red inside the Trumbull Aquatics Center.
