PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (February 17, 2024) – During day two of the College Squash Association National Collegiate Men's Team Championship, the No. 27-ranked and seventh-seeded Denison University men's squash dropped a 7-2 decision against No. 26-ranked and sixth-seeded Bates College during the semifinals of the Summers Cup Consolation Bracket.
It was the first-ever matchup between Denison (10-10 overall) and Bates (4-14), and was the second straight 7-2 loss for the Big Red at the Team Championships after falling to No. 22 Navy in the main bracket on Friday.
Two of the first four matches saw the Big Red battle to five sets as
Jack Jones led 2-0 before losing 3-2 (6-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-2, 11-9) against Philip Han at the No. 9 seed.
Tarun Mammen, meanwhile, pulled out a 3-2 (9-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-9, 11-9) win over Labeeb Ali in the two spot.
The Big Red then dropped a pair of four-setters as
Jackson Bragman fell 3-1 (4-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-5) to Max Good at the No. 7 seed while
Rayan Dar lost 3-1 (11-3, 11-2, 8-11, 11-4) to Theodore Koenigsbauer in the No. 8 seed.
Denison's second win of the match came from
Juan Felipe Hernandez with a 3-1 (8-11, 11-7, 16-14, 11-9) victory over Alec Spiro at the No. 1 seed, giving the Big Red the win at each of the top-two seeds.
