GRANVILLE, Ohio (February 15, 2024) – The Denison University men's swimming & diving team had an outstanding second night at the 2024 North Coast Athletic Conference Championships. The Big Red won two of the four events to take a 45-point lead (677-632) over Kenyon College heading into day three of the meet.
Christian McIntire led a group of Big Red swimmers that swept the top-four spots in the 500 freestyle with an NCAA Division III National "B" cut of 4:27.12. Finishing behind McIntire was
Tyler Distenfeld in second with a National "B" cut of 4:29.04,
Lucas Conrads in third with a "B" cut of 4:30.05, and
Sam Myaard in fourth at 4:31.71.
Also in the 500 freestyle,
Luke Landis (4:32.74) added a sixth-place finish and
Ryan Foreback (4:37.37) won the B Final (10th overall) to help the Big Red take over first place, 359-299, over Kenyon.
Then in the 200 IM,
Patrick Daly brought home his second straight conference title in the event and earned the first NCAC record of the meet with a "B" cut time of 1:46.89, breaking the previous conference record of 1:47.82 set by Kenyon's Luis Weeks in 2020.
Denison was then able to add some big points to finish out the 200 IM as
Devin Testin was fourth with a "B" cut time himself at 1:50.50. Next was
Max Soja and
Gavin Jones in a tie for fifth place at 1:50.85, followed by
Connor Brown (1:51.84) in seventh and
Christian Narcelles (1:52.52) in ninth.
That allowed the Big Red to expand their lead to over 100 points (546-417) in front of the Owls; but in the 50 freestyle,
Elijah Venos (20.97) and
Richie Stewart (21.04) finished in seventh and eighth place, respectively, as Denison's lead shrank to 615-562 entering the lone relay of the day.
Lastly, in the 400 medley relay, Testin, Venos,
Dylan Escano and Daly finished in second place with a "B" cut of 3:14.69 while Kenyon was first at 3:13.54.
Denison returns to the Trumbull Aquatics Center on Friday, February 16, for day three of the 2024 North Coast Athletic Conference Championships with preliminaries starting at 9:30 a.m. followed by finals at 6 p.m. Day three of the conference meet will feature the 100 butterfly, 400 IM, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 200 freestyle relay and the men's 1-meter dive.
