2024 NCAC Swim & Dive Championships underway

GRANVILLE, Ohio (February 14, 2024) – The 2024 North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships got underway with the 800 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay and the men's 3-meter dive on Wednesday night at the Trumbull Aquatics Center. Denison and Kenyon College are both tied for first place on the women's side with 132 points while on the men's side, Wabash College is first with 230 points, Kenyon is second with 204 points, and Denison is third with 185 points.

In the first women's event, Quinn Brown, Taryn Wisner, Esme Wright and Emily Harris earned the win in the 800 freestyle relay with an NCAA Division III National "B" cut of 7:17.61. Then in the final event of opening night, Jassy Park, Riley Tofflemire, Phoebe Ferguson and Grace Kadlecik finished second with a National "B" cut of 1:40.97 in the 200 medley relay while Kenyon finished first at 1:40.94, just out-touching Denison by .03 seconds.

In the men's 800 freestyle relay, Denison's group of Sam Myaard, Ryan Foreback, Christian McIntire and Tyler Distenfeld finished second with a "B" cut time of 6:35.69 while Kenyon won the event with a time of 6:34.09. Then in the 200 medley relay, Nicholas Settembrine, Elijah Venos, Richie Stewart and Patrick Daly finished second with a "B" cut of 1:28.86 while Kenyon put together the winning time of 1:28.45, only .41 seconds in front of the Big Red.

Denison's sophomore diving duo of Brendan Stanley (523.20) and Nick Fogle (522.20) each moved up one spot from the prelims to finish in second and third place, respectively, in the men's 3-meter diving finals. Each of Denison's dives on the night were good for a provisional regional qualifying score while Kenyon's Israel Zavaleta (644.20) finished only 1.5 points away from setting a new national record and breaking the previous record 645.70 points by Denison's Connor Dignan in 2014.

The Big Red will return to action tomorrow, February 15, when they compete in the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, 400 medley relay, and the women's 1-meter dive. Prelims will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the finals to follow at 6 p.m.
