CANTON, N.Y. (February 11, 2024) – For the second year in a row, the Denison University men's squash team fell against Hobart College in the third-place match of the Liberty League Championship. After falling 8-1 against Hobart last season, the No. 27-ranked and fourth-seeded Big Red lost 6-3 to the No. 21-ranked and second-seeded Statesmen this time around.
Five of the eight matches against Hobart went to four or more sets, including all three of Denison's wins, which each went to 3-1.
Juan Felipe Hernandez won 11-7, 11-9, 5-11, 11-8 over Hussein Labib at the No. 1 seed;
Chase Lenfest won 11-6, 11-7, 9-11, 13-11 against Matthew Aldana at the No. 6 seed; and
Rayan Dar won his final three sets to defeat Raji Davenport 6-11, 11-2, 11-9, 11-7 in the No. 8 spot.
Ross Falcon fell in five sets, 11-5, 11-2, 7-11, 9-11, 11-5, to Javier De La Vega at the No. 5 seed, and
Jackson Bragman nearly forced a fifth set before coming up short, 11-8, 4-11, 11-5, 13-11, against Ángel Ripollés Medina in the No. 7 seed.
With a current record of 10-8, the Big Red will now prep for the start of the College Squash Association National Championships, scheduled for February 16 through February 18 at the Arlen Specter USA Squash Center in Philadelphia's University City district. More information about the event, including bracketing and live streaming details, is expected to be announced early next week following the conclusion of conference tournament action.
