CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Dec. 6) – The Denison University squash teams opened their weekend trip by facing Colby College on Friday evening. The Big Red men's team suffered a tough 5-4 setback. The Denison women's team lost by a 9-0 score to the Mules.
Men's Recap – Colby 5, Denison 4
Denison dropped the top five matches in the loss to Colby. The Big Red picked up victories at the six, seven, eight and nine positions.
Ross Falcon secured a four-set win over Alan Lopez at the sixth position. Falcon won the opening two sets by scores of 11-4 and 11-5. After falling in the third set, Falcon sealed his victory with an 11-8 win in the fourth set.
Rayan Dar picked up a five-set victory at the number seven position. Dar won the opening set before dropping the second and third sets. Dar rallied for victory with an 11-6 win in the fourth set. Dar then picked up an 11-9 win in the deciding fifth set.
Gus Nelson earned a five-set win in the number eight spot. Nelson overcame an early hole to secure the win. After dropping the first two sets, Nelson won by scores of 11-7, 11-5 and 13-11 to take the victory.
Wylly Molten rolled to a straight-set win at the ninth position. Molten won 11-1, 11-7 and 11-4.
Women's Recap – Colby 9, Denison 0
The Mules picked up the shutout win over the Big Red on the women's side.
Kate Manderlink (No. 5),
Virginia Lawrence (No. 8) and
Maddie Ruggie (No. 9) won sets during their respective matches.
Lawrence claimed the opening set by an 11-8 score in her match.
Up Next: Denison faces Bates College on Saturday, Dec. 7. Competition will start at 1 p.m.
