Fifth-ranked Big Red women in second place after day one of Denison Invitational

GRANVILLE, Ohio (Dec. 5) – The fifth-ranked Denison University women's swimming program sits in second place after day one of the 2024 Denison Invitational. The Big Red registered 14 NCAA "B" cut times during Thursday's two sessions to amass 490.5 points. 
 
Denison trails top-ranked D-III foe Emory University (534) in the team standings. Division II University of Indianapolis, ranked second at that level, has 417 points to sit in third place. Division I Eastern Michigan totaled 298.5 points while D-III No. 11 Wash U of St. Louis has 213 points. 
 
The Big Red opened the night session with a first-place effort in the 200 Free Relay. Amber Croonquist, Grace Kadlecik, Caroline Ramirez and Olivia Morse compiled to put together a winning NCAA "B" cut time of 1:33.35. 
 
Quinn Brown and Emily Harris registered top three finishes in the 500 Free. Brown had a B cut time of 4:51.60 to place second while Harris added a B cut time of 4:53.76 to finish third in the event. 
 
Phoebe Ferguson and Drue Thielking finished fourth and fifth respectively in the 200 IM finals. Ferguson logged a time of 2:05.00 and Thielking came in at 2:05.13. Both times are NCAA "B" cut standards. 
 
Denison put four swimmers into the finals of the 50 Free. Leading the way was Kadlecik, who finished third with an NCAA "B" cut mark of 23.37. Croonquist placed fifth with a "B" cut time of 23.52. Morse and Ramirez tied for eighth in the event with identical times of 23.83. 
 
A pair of NCAA "B" cut finishes in the 400 Medley Relay gave Denison a strong finish to day one. The grouping of Jassy Park, Thielking, Emma Pritchett and Harris finished third with a time of 3:43.83. The team of Ramirez, Riley Tofflemire, Maja Palmroos and Croonquist placed fifth at 3:46.12. 

Up Next: Competition continues Friday with day two of the invitational. Friday's events include the 400 IM, the 100 Fly, the 200 Free, the 100 Breast, the 100 Back, the 200 Medley Relay and the 800 Free Relay.
