GRANVILLE, Ohio (Nov. 16) – Sophomore
Jassy Park broke fifth-ranked Denison University's oldest varsity women's swimming and diving record, and that was one of 14 NCAA Div. III 'B' cuts turned in by the Big Red during Saturday's 158-74 win over Oberlin College at Trumbull Aquatics Center.
Park's 54.76 in the 100 backstroke was a touch better than Olivia Zaleski's 54.80 that topped Denison's varsity record book since 2009. Park's winning time is the second-fastest in Div. III this season, per times submitted to SwimCloud, and was one of three 'B' cut Saturday swims for the sophomore.
Park's meet started as the leadoff leg of Denison's winning 200 medley relay, where
Riley Tofflemire,
Maja Palmroos, and
Amber Croonquist joined the sophomore for a 'B' cut 1:42.92, which is the second-best Div. III time this this season, per SwimCloud. Later, Park,
Caroline Ramirez, Palmroos, and
Quinn Brown's 1:35.06 in the 200 freestyle relay marked one of two 'B' cut swims in the event for the Big Red. Individually, Park was first to the wall in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:08.47.
Denison posted at least the top three times and top three diving scores in every event contested in Saturday's meet. Park's varsity record was co-headlined by Denison's efforts in the 200 freestyle. Brown's 1:48.74 and
Emily Harris' 1:49.50 are the first two sub-1:50 times in Div. III this season, per SwimCloud. Brown's time marked a new collegiate-best, while Harris' was within a second of the time from the 2024 Div. III Championships.
All four of Brown's Saturday swims were 'B' cut times. In addition to the already-mentioned ones, Brown posted the winning time of 51.41 in the 100 freestyle and capped the meet as leg three of Denison's B 400 freestyle relay, where
Avery Vogen, Ramirez, and
Annie Pfeufer went 3:29.05. Denison's top 400 freestyle relay, which consisted of Harris,
Maddie Schaefer, Oliva Morse, and Croonquist turned in this season's second-fastest Div. III time of 3:28.81.
Harris matched Brown with four 'B' cuts on the day. The junior won the 500 freestyle at 4:51.24 and went 51.20 in the 100 freestyle leadoff leg of the winning 400 freestyle relay.
Elsewhere, Denison posted three other top-five Div. III times this season. Palmroos' 55.42 in the 100 butterfly vaulted the senior from 63rd to third within Div. III this season, per SwimCloud, and marked her first 'B' cut in the event. Croonquist, Schaefer, Morse, and
Grace Kadlecik won the 200 freestyle relay with a 'B' cut 1:34.03, which is the fourth-best time, per SwimCloud. Individually, Tofflemire's first-place 100 breaststroke 'B' cut time of 1:03.25 is fifth in Div. III thus far this year and is within one second of the collegiate-best time of 1:02.53 from last year's national meet.
