GRANVILLE, Ohio (Nov. 16) – Third-ranked Denison University's men's swimming and diving team bookended Saturday's 152-77 win over Oberlin College with NCAA Div. III 'B' cuts and proved it has one of the deepest programs in the country at Trumbull Aquatics Center.
Denison shot up to third from eighth in the latest College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America Div. III top 25 dual meet poll, and the Big Red more than backed the elevated ranking up. Denison posted at least the top four times in every swimming event in Saturday's win and no Big Red team member won multiple individual events. Additionally, Denison's two divers were the top placers on both boards.
Jack Hill,
Patrick Daly,
Dylan Escano, and
Nick Hensel's 1:29.00 in the meet-opening 200 medley relay improved upon the Big Red's 'B' cut time of 1:30.70 from the Oct. 26 dual meet win over NCAA Div. I Xavier University. Denison's 1:29.00 is the third-best time in Div. III this season, per SwimCloud.
Hill, Cameron Nobel, Daly, and Hensel just missed being the second Div. III 400 freestyle relay team to eclipse 3:00 this season, as the Big Red came in at 3:00.16. Hill's 44.88 100 freestyle leadoff leg marked a second 'B' cut in the relay for the sophomore, and it is the fourth-fastest time in Div. III this season, per SwimCloud.
Hensel's 20.29 as the 50 freestyle leadoff leg of Denison's winning 200 freestyle relay (1:22.53) rounded out the Big Red's Saturday swimming 'B' cuts. Only Pomona-Pitzer Colleges' Casey Jacobs (20.28) has been faster within Div. III this fall.
Benjamin Coverdale, Noble, and Hill comprised the rest of Denison's winning quartet.
Brendan Stanley's 300.45 points on the one-meter board wrapped up Denison's 'B' cuts, and it marked the junior's second 'B' cut qualification score of the season on the board. Stanley doubled-up on first-place finishes with 262.73 points in the three-meter competition.
Theo Wolf's 21.18 in the 50 freestyle just edged out
Andre Beduschi's 21.19. Beduschi later went 46.32 to claim first in the 100 freestyle.
George Goins' 1:40.43 was the winning effort in the 200 freestyle, while
Max Hutson-Comeaux rounded out the winning freestyle events with a 4:39.60 in the 500-yard race.
Elsewhere,
Luke Swiggett's 1:50.94 was the time to beat in the 200 individual medley, Daly claimed the blue ribbon in the 100 butterfly with a 49.49, and
Ben Bevill posted the winning time of 49.98 in the 100 backstroke.
Elijah Venos rounded out the winners with a 55.93 in the 100 breaststroke.
