AKRON, Ohio (Oct. 12) -- Junior diver
Brendan Stanley claimed the title in the One-Meter Dives with a meet record score to lead the Denison University men's swimming and diving team during the final day of the season-opening Akron University Zips Classic on Saturday.
Competing against Xavier and Youngstown State, Denison totaled 961 team points to finish third at the event.
Denison finished in the top two spots in the One-Meter Dives. Stanley won with a score of 272.30 while
Nick Fogle was runner-up with a score of 260.60. Stanley's score established a new meet record in the event.
DU placed two teams in the top six of the 200 Free Relay.
Benjamin Coverdale,
Nick Hensel,
Jack Hill and
Patrick Daly finished third at 1:23.21. In sixth place was
Cameron Noble,
Harry Parsons,
Clay Perry and
Gavin Jones, with a time of 1:25.24.
The Big Red men put two in the top nine in the 400 IM.
Lucas Conrads placed seventh (4:11.04) and
Max Soja came in at 4:13.56 to place ninth.
Christian Narcelles finished ninth in the 100 Fly. He posted a time of 51.27.
Noble and
Christian McIntire were fourth and fifth in the 200 Free. Noble timed in at 1:42.03 while McIntire touched the wall at 1:43.31.
Denison fared well in the 100 Breaststroke, with three in the top six. Daly finished third (56.67) while
Liam Nelson was fifth (57.23) and
Teak Rommaneekochchakorn was sixth (57.69).
Elijah Venos finished in 10th (58.29).
Three finished in the top 10 of the 100 Back. Leading the way was
Jack Hill and
Ben Bevill, who tied for fourth at 51.13.
Devin Testin placed ninth at 51.90.
Denison had a notable finish in the 200 Medley Relay, as Bevill, Daly, Narcelles and Hensel clocked in at 1:31.85.
In the 1650 Free,
Lucas Conrads came in fourth (16:13.17),
George Goins was eighth (16:30.00) and
Max Hutson-Comeaux finished ninth (16:32.90).
Testin (1:54.99) and Bevill (1:55.19) finished sixth and seventh in the 200 Back.
Marshall Pifer was 10th (1:55.49).
Denison had three top eight finishers in the 100 Free.
Nick Hensel led the way in fourth place (46.11) while
Jack Hill (46.22) was fifth. Noble was eighth with a time of 46.42.
Nelson was runner-up in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:04.85. Rommaneekochchakorn (2:06.68) was seventh, Daly (2:07.91) was eighth and Jones finished 10th (2:09.59).
The Big Red occupied the four through seven spots in the 200 Fly.
Dylan Escano (1:55.48),
Max Soja (1:55.82),
Max Lough (1:56.31) and
Kenny You (1:59.54) were the respective finishers in those spots.
The 400 Relay team of Hensel, Hill, Noble and Daly finished as the runner-up with a time of 3:01.47. Testin, Narcelles, Perry and Jones were fifth at 3:07.68.
The Big Red return to competition at the Ohio State University on Friday, Oct. 25. The event, which will be held at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, will start at 5 p.m.
