MOUNT BERRY, Ga. (Oct. 12) – A historical run continued for the Denison University men's tennis team in the semifinal round Saturday of the 2024 ITA Cup at Berry College at the Rome Tennis Center. The Big Red advanced players into the ITA championship round in both singles and doubles play.
Ethan Green made more school history as he became the first Denison men's single players to advance to the ITA Championship. Green knocked off Alex Feies of Carnegie Mellon University in the semifinals. Green took the first set by a 6-4 score before falling 6-3 in the second set. Green then prevailed with a dominant effort in the final set, as he won by a 6-1 margin.
Green advances to the title match where he will face Advik Mareedu of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College. Mareedu advanced with a three-set win of his own Saturday in the semifinals. The two will face off Sunday at 8 a.m. in Rome.
Kael Shah and Green moved onto the finals with a 7-6 (8-6) and 6-1 win over Josh Christenson and Marco Siviero of Gustavus Adolphus College in Saturday's semifinals. The duo will play for the title one hour after the singles title match concludes.
Earlier in the day, Shah earned a victory over Efe Comu of Emory by scores of 7-6 (9-7) and 6-2 in the consolations semifinals of singles play.
