AKRON, Ohio -- A runner-up finish by
Nick Fogle in the 3-Meter Dives highlighted the opening session of the Akron Zips Classic, as the Denison University men's swimming and diving team opened the 2024-25 season.
Fogle compiled a score of 279.40 but was narrowly edged for the top spot in the event.
Brendan Stanley finished fourth with 234.15 points in the 3-Meter Dives.
The team of
Devin Testin,
Patrick Daly,
Christian Narcelles and
Jack Hill finished fifth in the 400 Medley Relay at 3:23.26.
Denison put four swimmers in the top 10 of the 500 Free.
Christian McIntire came in third place with a time of 4:37.19 to lead the group.
Lucas Conrads finished sixth (4:39.61),
George Goins was ninth (4:41.13) and
Max Hutson-Comeaux came in 10th (4:42.70).
Daly came in fourth place in the 200 IM. Daly recorded a time of 1:53.22. Testin finished in 10th place in the event with a time of 1:56.24.
Liam Nelson (11th),
Gavin Jones (12th),
Luke Swiggett (13th) and Narcelles (15th) also scored points in the 200 IM.
Four members of the Big Red scored in the 50 Free.
Nick Hensel and
Benjamin Coverdale finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Hensel posted a time of 21.09 while Coverdale came in at 21.12.
Denison's top group capped the night strong with a second place showing in the 800 Free Relay. Hill, McIntire, Narcelles and Jones logged a time of 6:53.78.
The quartet of Conrads,
Tyler Distenfeld,
Cameron Noble and Goins scored in ninth place with a time of 7:01.08 in the 800 Free Relay.
Denison totaled 269 points during Friday's session.
The Zips Classic continues Saturday, Oct. 12 with sessions at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
