Kael Shah and
Ethan Green opened the 2024 ITA Cup with wins Thursday in singles play to advance to the quarterfinals on Friday. The duo later teamed up to earn a win in the doubles portion of the Round of 16.
The event is being hosted by Berry College at the Rome Tennis Center.
Shah breezed to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Chakor Sankaran Rajendra of Johns Hopkins in the round of 16. Shah will face Advik Mareedu of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the quarterfinals on Friday at 11 a.m.
Green had to work for his victory over Warren Pham of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Green opened with a 6-4 win in the first set before falling 6-3 in the second set. Green was able to advance after securing a 7-5 victory in the third set. Green advances to take on John Lasanajak of Emory in the quarterfinals.
Later in the day, Shah and Green teamed up to face Aiden Drover-Mattinen and Andy Zhu of RPI in the Round of 16 for doubles. The duo earned a hard-fought come from behind victory. After dropping the first set by a 6-4 margin, Shah and Green turned the tables and won 6-4. In the third set, Shah and Green edged their opponents by a 10-8 margin to advance.
They will face Javier Gonzalez and Stavros Mastrogamvrakis of Tufts in the quarterfinals at 3 p.m. Friday.
