GRANVILLE, Ohio (January 27, 2024) – In their final tune-up prior to the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship on February 14-17, No. 1 nationally-ranked Denison University women's swimming & diving posted a 150-89 victory over Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday morning during its Senior Day meet at the Trumbull Aquatics Center. The Big Red won 10 events before the meet went to exhibition status with six events remaining. In addition,
Taryn Wisner won both the 100 backstroke and the 300 freestyle events.
The Big Red "B" team of
Lauren Richner,
Zoe Barclay,
Amber Croonquist and
Grace Kadlecik started off the meet with a win and a time of 47.75 seconds in the 100 medley relay. They were followed by the Denison "D" team of
Jassy Park,
Riley Tofflemire,
Olivia Morse and
Courtney McKeown taking second at 47.81 seconds while the "A" team of
Ali Burns,
Esme Wright,
Kelly Derasmo and
Natalie English was third at 47.93 seconds.
Nikki Barnas took home the win with a time of 5:08.48 in the 500 freestyle and was followed by Derasmo with a time of 5:10.26.
Quinn Brown led the way in the 200 freestyle with a win and an NCAA Division III National "B" cut of 1:51.23, followed by
Annie Pfeufer (1:52.59) in second and Kadlecik (1:56.44) in third.
Burns (27.82) finished in first in the 50 backstroke and Tofflemire (29.34) did the same in the 50 breaststroke.
Emily Harris was first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.16 seconds while
Emma Pritchett was second at 56.22 seconds and Croonquist was third at 57.63 seconds.
Claire Moody was the winner in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.63 seconds and was followed by
Kacey Collis (24.91) in second place. In the 100 freestyle, Morse (52.43) was first, followed by Park (52.75) in second and Pfeufer (53.23) in third.
Wisner won the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.64 seconds while McKeown was second at 1:00.17.
Drue Thielking won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.68 before the meet switched to exhibition status for the final four events.
In exhibition swims, the 300 freestyle was won by Wisner (2:55.64), who led
Erika Schraber (3:02.75) in second and
Caroline Cavalier (3:04.71) in third. In the 50 butterfly, Pritchett (25.78) took home the win while
Avery Vogen (26.48) was second and
Kayla Tehrani (27.18) was third. In the 100 IM,
Phoebe Ferguson (59.22) took home the win while
Tara Witkowski (1:00.02) was second, Tofflemire (1:00.15) was third and Thielking (1:00.32) was fourth.
Lastly, the 100 freestyle relay was led by the Denison "B" team consisting of Pfeufer, Croonquist, Vogen and Kadlecik with a time of 43.25 seconds. Next was the "A" team of Wright, English, Derasmo and Witkowski in second with a time of 44.18 seconds, followed by the "D" team of McKeown, Park, Morse and Collis in third at 44.76 seconds.
On the diving boards,
Kerstyn Johnson (434.18),
Lu-Si Minnich (400.65) and
Alexis Radhakrishnan (398.33) each set an NCAA Division III provisional regional qualifying score and finished 1-3, respectively, in the 1-meter dive. Meanwhile, in the 3-meter dive, Minnich earned the win with a score of 461.25 while Johnson (446.25) was second and Radhakrishnan (400.95) was third. Both of Minnich's and Johnson's scores in the 3-meter dive were good for a provisional regional qualifying score as well.
Denison returns to action on Wednesday, February 14, with the first of four days at the 2024 North Coast Athletic Conference Championship at the Trumbull Aquatics Center.
