GRANVILLE, Ohio (January 27, 2024) – No. 5-ranked Denison University put the finishing touches on its 2023-24 dual meet schedule with a 143-81 victory over Ohio Wesleyan University. The Big Red won nine straight swimming events before the meet went to exhibition status with seven events to go. Earning two wins apiece were
Emmett Harmon (50 backstroke, 50 butterfly),
Josh Thomas (50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke),
Patrick Daly (100 freestyle, 100 IM) and
Brendan Stanley (1-meter dive, 3-meter dive).
The Big Red "B" team of
Shea Card,
Elijah Venos,
Christian Narcelles and Daly started off the meet by finishing in first place with a time of 40.97 seconds in the 100 medley relay. They were followed by the Denison "D" team of Harmon,
Liam Nelson,
Dylan Escano and
Matt Stankivicz taking second at 41.11 seconds while the "A" team of
Nicholas Settembrine,
Owen Dy,
Richie Stewart and
Ryan Foreback was third at 41.64 seconds.
Max Lough took home the win in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:42.54 and was followed by
Andre Beduschi with a time of 4:43.87.
Sam Myaard took first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:40.65 and was followed by
Tyler Distenfeld (1:41.27) in second and Narcelles (1:41.49) in third.
In the 50 backstroke, Harmon (23.59) was first and
Cameron Noble (24.36) was second. Thomas then claimed the top mark in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 26.15 seconds while
Luke Dauer (26.24) was second and
Blake McDonald (27.31) was third.
Escano claimed first place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.59 seconds while Foreback was second at 51.65 seconds. Stewart led the way in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.31 seconds, followed by Venos in second at 21.68 seconds and Settembrine in third at 21.79 seconds.
Daly took home the win in the 100 freestyle with a winning-time of 46.16 seconds while behind him, Noble (46.48) was second and Stankivicz (47.29) was third. In the 100 backstroke, Card (52.27), Distenfeld (53.55) and
Lucas Conrads (54.19) took each of the top-three positions, and then the meet switched to exhibition status for the final seven events.
To start off the exhibition swims, Thomas earned his second win of the day with a time of 57.00 seconds in the 100 breaststroke, and was followed by Dauer (58.63) in second,
George Wang (58.64) in third and
Riccardo Ricciardi (1:00.36) in fourth. Then in the 300 freestyle,
Christian McIntire (2:38.48) finished first, Myaard (2:40.15) was second, Narcelles (2:43.91) was third and Foreback (2:48.02) was fourth. In the 50 butterfly, Harmon (23.17) took home the win while Beduschi (23.38) was second, Nelson (23.72) was third,
Theo Wolf (23.90) was fourth,
Luke Landis (24.51) was fifth and McDonald (24.62) was sixth. Lastly, in the 100 IM, Daly (50.63) picked up his second win of the day while
Luke Swiggett (53.11) was second,
Max Soja (53.38) was third, Escano (53.65) was fourth,
Connor Brown (54.28) was fifth and Card (54.64) was sixth.
Finishing things off in the pool was the 100 freestyle relay, which saw the Big Red "A" team of Foreback, Myaard, Settembrine and Stewart finish first with a time of 38.23 seconds while the "B" team of Daly,
Gavin Jones, Distenfeld and Narcelles was second at 38.34 seconds and the "D" team of Beduschi, Dauer, Stankivicz and Noble was third at 38.69 seconds.
In diving, Stanley posted an 11-dive score of 432.45 to win the 3-meter dive and finished with a score of 438.23 to win the 1-meter dive. His score in the 1-meter was good for an NCAA Division III provisional regional qualifying score as well.
Denison returns to action on Wednesday, February 14, with the first of four days at the 2024 North Coast Athletic Conference Championship at the Trumbull Aquatics Center.
