PITTSBURGH, Pa. (January 13, 2024) – The No. 6 Denison University men's swimming & diving team took down three other teams ranked in the top-12 of the latest DIII CSCAA Top 25 Poll on Saturday at the CMU Quad Meet. The Big Red were 155.50-142.50 winners over the hosts from No. 9 Carnegie Mellon University, and won 165-133 over No. 8 Calvin University and 168-120 against No. 12 Johns Hopkins University.
Brendan Stanley won both the 1-meter and the 3-meter dive while
Tyler Distenfeld won the 200 freestyle and was second in the 500 freestyle.
Nicholas Settembrine,
Elijah Venos,
Richie Stewart and
Patrick Daly finished fourth with a time of 1:31.72 in the 200 medley relay; and then
Luke Landis and
Lucas Conrads finished second and third in the 1000 freestyle with times of 9:29.05 and 9:32.07, respectively.
Denison's first win of the meet came from Distenfeld with a time of 1:40.75 in the 200 freestyle while
Cameron Noble came in third with a time of 1:41.95.
Settembrine finished fifth in the 100 backstroke at 50.73 seconds while
Luke Swiggett (51.83) and
Devin Testin (52.04) were back-to-back in seventh and eighth place.
Patrick Daly (55.68) and
Liam Nelson (55.88) finished in second and fourth place, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke; and then
Max Soja was third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:50.72.
Stewart was fifth in the 50 freestyle at 21.29 seconds; and then in the 100 freestyle, Daly finished fifth with a time of 46.72 seconds.
Settembrine finished third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:52.15; and then Denison's second win of the meet came from Nelson with a pool record time of 2:01.81 in the 200 breaststroke.
One of Denison's best races was the 500 freestyle as Distenfeld (4:36.52), Landis (4:38.71),
Christian McIntire (4:38.74) and
Gavin Jones (4:39.59) finished in order between second and fifth place.
In the 100 butterfly,
Christian Narcelles tied for sixth place with a time of 50.73 seconds while
Max Lough was eighth at 50.91 seconds.
Daly won the 200 IM with a pool record time of 1:51.44 while Conrads was fourth at 1:53.46; and in the 200 freestyle relay Narcelles, Stewart,
Luke Dauer and
Ryan Foreback were fourth at 1:24.31.
Lastly, Stanley (278.90) and
Nick Fogle (243.35) took the top-two spots in the 1-meter dive while Stanley (294.75) also won the 3-meter dive and Fogle (246.60) was third. Both of Stanley's scores were good for a provisional regional qualifying score.
The Big Red return to action on Saturday, January 20, when they travel to NCAA Division I Youngstown State University.
