GRANVILLE, Ohio (June 1, 2023) – College Sports Communicators announced its 2022-23 Academic All-America® Women's Tennis Teams, and Denison University's
Sydney Cianciola was named a Second-Team Academic All-American®.
Cianciola is a biology major on the pre-med track who holds a 3.84 cumulative GPA and is from Canfield, Ohio. A 2023 team captain, she was recently named First-Team All-North Coast Athletic Conference in singles for the third year in a row and was first-team all-conference in doubles for the second year in a row. She was 6-9 from the No. 1 singles position and was 12-6 at No. 1 doubles with her partner,
Sarah Robertson. Cianciola finished her senior season ranked No. 12 in the ITA Central Region for singles while she and Robertson were ranked No. 6 in the region for doubles.
Cianciola helped the Big Red to a 17-6 overall record in 2023 to go along with North Coast Athletic Conference runner-up finishes in both the regular season and in the conference tournament. In addition, Denison's 15 wins in the regular season were its most since 2008.
Cianciola was 30-31 in singles and 51-22 in doubles for her career, and ranks No. 17 on Denison's all-time doubles career wins list. In 2021, She was named the NCAC Newcomer of the Year, became the first ITA All-American in singles for Denison women's tennis since 2014, and was also selected to compete in the 2021 NCAA Singles Championship. In 2022, Cianciola helped Denison win its first NCAC Championship since 2016 with a 5-3 win at Kenyon College. Denison also won a match in the NCAA Tournament in both 2021 and 2022.
In addition to having been named to the Dean's List for each semester throughout her four years, Cianciola is a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete, a two-time member of the NCAC Academic Honor Roll, a 2021-22 Denison Chi Alpha Sigma Inductee, and is now a three-time Denison Top-50 Scholar-Athlete. She is also a Denison Student-Athlete Advisory Council (DSAAC) representative for the women's tennis team, and is involved with Mission34, the Mortar Board, Tri Delta, the Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Health Society and the Denison University Biological Society.

Cianciola is the just the third Academic All-American® in the history of the Big Red women's tennis program, joining Erin Coughlin (2006) and Erin Gorsich (2008), who were both named to the third-team.
This brings Denison's count to 113 Academic All-America® winners in school history. Created in 1952, the Academic All-America® program, selected by College Sports Communicators, is a premier, nationwide college scholar-athlete awards program. It recognizes over 1,400 outstanding student-athletes annually in Division I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
