CLEVELAND, Ohio (May 7, 2023) – For the second year in a row, the Denison University men's tennis team saw its season come to an end in the third round (Sweet Sixteen) of the NCAA Division III Tournament. This time, No. 1 nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve University defeated the No. 14-ranked Big Red, 5-1, from the Carlton Courts in Cleveland, Ohio.

Doubles
- Jack Bulger and Marc-Lennart Harms fell 8-3 to James Hopper and Vishwa Aduru, the No. 1-ranked doubles pair in the Central Region, at No. 1 doubles.
- Ethan Green and Camden French fell 8-5 to Diego Maza and Christian Provenzano, the No. 9-ranked pair in the region, at No. 2 doubles.
- At No. 3 doubles, Zachary Portnoy and Andy Mackler earned an 8-6 victory over Ansh Shah and Michael Sutanto to get Denison on the board.
Singles
- Kael Shah fell 6-3, 6-4 to James Hopper, the No. 1-ranked singles player in the Central Region, at No. 1 singles.
- Andreas Chapides fell 7-5, 6-2 to Casey Hishinuma at No. 6 singles.
- Ethan Green fell in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, to Ajay Mahenthiran at No. 5 singles to end the match.
Record Book Watch:
- Zachary Portnoy's 26 total doubles wins this season were good for the second most in a single season in program history, surpassing the total of 25 doubles wins earned by teammates Jack Bulger and Andy Mackler last season and coming up just two wins short of the record of 28 doubles wins set by Tim Cianciola also last season.
- In addition, Portnoy's 44 combined wins this season were tied for the third most in a single season in program history.
Team Records:
- Denison ended its 2023 season with a final record of 26-4, setting a new program record for wins in a single season for the second year in a row.
- Three of Denison's four losses this season came against teams ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division III at the time, including twice against CWRU, which improves to 30-4 overall and a perfect 25-0 against Division III opponents this season.
- The Big Red also won both the North Coast Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championships, marking the third straight conference championship season for the Big Red in three years under the direction of Head Coach David Schilling.
