GRANVILLE, Ohio (May 31, 2023) – College Sports Communicators announced its 2022-23 Academic All-America® Men's Tennis Teams, and Denison University's
Jack Bulger was named a Third-Team Academic All-American®.
Bulger is a mathematics major who holds a 3.63 cumulative GPA and is from Mill Valley, California. He was named the 2023 North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year after earning back-to-back doubles team of the year honors over the previous two seasons. He was named an All-American in doubles in 2022 and is a three-time All-NCAC selection in both singles and doubles, including two first-team all-conference selections in both singles and doubles.
Bulger was chosen to compete in the 2023 NCAA Singles Championship in Orlando, Florida, as a senior. In the end, Bulger, who was most recently ranked No. 11 in the ITA Central Region for singles, posted an overall singles record of 20-7 this season and was 12-5 in dual matches (flights 1-3) and 8-4 at No. 1 singles. In doubles this season, Bulger was 20-13 overall, 16-7 in dual matches (flights 1-2) and was 12-7 at No. 1 doubles. Bulger teamed up with fellow-senior
Marc-Lennart Harms to go 9-4 at No. 1 doubles this season and earn second-team all-conference honors. Bulger and Harms were most recently ranked No. 5 in the ITA Central Region for doubles.
As a team, Denison ended its 2023 season with a final record of 26-4, setting a new program record for wins in a single season for the second year in a row. Denison won both the NCAC regular-season and tournament championships, marking the third straight conference championship season for the Big Red, and also won a match in the NCAA Tournament in both 2022 and 2023 after their only previous win in the tournament came in 1997.
In 2022, Bulger and his partner,
Tim Cianciola, went on to earn All-American status in doubles and were named the NCAC Doubles Team of the Year for the second year in a row. Bulger and Cianciola were also selected to compete in the 2022 NCAA Doubles Championship, where they became the second Big Red duo ever and the first since 1997 to advance to the quarterfinals. Bulger finished the 2022 season ranked No. 22 in singles and No. 4 in doubles in all of NCAA Division III.
A two-time NCAC Athlete of the Week and a member of Denison's Student-Athlete Advisory Council, Bulger was named to the NCAC Academic Honor Roll and was a Denison Top-50 Scholar-Athlete in both 2021 and 2022, was a 2020 ITA Scholar-Athlete, and was a 2021-22 Denison Chi Alpha Sigma inductee.
Bulger has posted career records of 59-19 in singles and 67-24 in doubles, and finishes his Big Red career ranked in top-five in singles wins and top-six in doubles wins while his 126 combined wins rank as the second most in program history.
Bulger is the first Academic All-American® in the history of the Big Red men's tennis program.
