GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 21, 2023) – The No. 19-ranked and second-seeded Denison University women's tennis team kicked off the 2023 North Coast Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament with a 5-0 sweep over seventh-seeded Ohio Wesleyan University on Friday at the Denison Tennis Courts.
Both
Caroline Lopez and
Peyton Oda (No. 2 doubles) and
Elizabeth Hoo and
Kendall Schrader (No. 3 doubles) won by a score of 8-1 while at No. 1 doubles,
Sydney Cianciola and
Sarah Robertson defeated Katie Lee and Shanzay Ali by a score of 8-4.
In singles,
Kendall Schrader defeated Kaitlyn Quinn 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles while
Hannah Quick also won 6-0, 6-0 over Emma Zajac in the four spot.
With the win, Denison improves to 16-5 overall, its most wins in the six-year tenure of Head Coach
Jamie Scott, while OWU's season ends at .500 (9-9). The Big Red have now won 36 straight matches against the Battling Bishops since the 1996 season, and are 54-4 all-time against OWU.
Next up, Denison will battle third-seeded Wittenberg University in the NCAC semifinals starting at 1 p.m. tomorrow (Apr. 22). The other semifinal match will feature top-seeded Kenyon College vs. the fourth-seeded College of Wooster.
