NEW ORLEANS, La. (March 7, 2023) – All-Region honorees for the 2023 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field season were announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), and Denison University's
Jacob Brown (heptathlon) and
Caliyah Bennett (60 meter hurdles) were both recognized as All-Great Lakes Region performers.
The top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region's top-3 relay teams. The regions used for this award – East, Great Lakes, Metro, Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Midwest, Niagara, North, South, and West – match those used during the cross country season.
Brown was named all-region in the heptathlon for the second year in a row after breaking his own school record and winning the heptathlon at the 2023 NCAC Indoor Track and Field Combined Events Championships with 4,669 points. Brown earned the heptathlon win after earning a first-place finish in the in the long jump (6.63m/21' 9.0"), claiming runner-up honors in the 60-meter dash (7.38), the 60-meter hurdles (9.01), the 1,000-meter run (2:57.33) and the shot put (11.97m/39' 3.25), while also tying for third in the pole vault (3.84m/12' 7.25") and tying for sixth in the high jump (1.74m/5' 8.5"). Brown's total of 4,669 points this year was 342 points better than his previous record of 4,327 points set at the conference championship a year ago.
Bennett earns her first-career all-region award after she broke the Denison record in the 60 meter hurdles at the 2023 North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. In the prelims, Bennett put up a winning-time of 9.17 seconds, breaking the previous school record of 9.18 seconds set by Aedin Brennan on February 28, 2016. Bennett then went on to record an all-conference performance in the finals of the 60 meter hurdles as she finished second with a time of 9.26 seconds.
Both Brown's and Bennett's marks in their respective events were ranked first in the Great Lakes Region.
