No. 29 women’s tennis swept by No. 12 Case in battle of top-30 teams

STOW, Ohio (March 26, 2023) – The No. 29 Denison University women's tennis team took to the court against the team that knocked them out of the NCAA Tournament a year ago, but in the end, it was No. 12 Case Western Reserve University that earned a 9-0 victory over Denison on Sunday at the LaTuchie Tennis Courts.

It was a battle between two 9-3 nationally-ranked teams, but the Spartans got off to a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles with the closest score being an 8-6 loss for Kendall Schrader and Peyton Oda against Anna Kan and Nina Hoog at No. 3 doubles.

In singles, Sarah Robertson won her first set 6-3 before falling 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-4) in a third-set super tiebreaker against Lily McCloskey in the two spot.

Oda won her first set 6-4 at the No. 5 spot before also falling in a third-set super tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8), against Kan.

Lastly, at No. 6 singles, Caroline Kittle won her first set before ultimately coming up short in yet another third-set super tiebreaker, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 1-0 (10-5).

Next weekend, the Big Red will host two matches on both Saturday, April 1, and Sunday, April 2. On Saturday, Denison will battle against Wittenberg University (10:30 a.m.) and Franciscan University (2 p.m.) before hosting Ohio Wesleyan University (10 a.m.) and Berea College (2 p.m.) on Sunday.
